We couldn’t have ask for a better start to July than our Chambers Annual Golf Day! It was an absolute pleasure to welcome players back to the immaculate course at Canons Brook Golf and Country Club in the heart of Harlow.
This was our second consecutive year at Canons Brook, and once again it provided the perfect setting for a fantastic day of connection, competition and sportsmanship. With ideal weather conditions throughout, everything was set for another memorable golfing event.
After enjoying delicious breakfast rolls to fuel the day ahead, attendees headed out onto the course for a shotgun start. Play was challenging but thoroughly enjoyable, and whilst no one claimed the £10,000 cash prize for a hole in one, generously sponsored by our members Dupliq, there were still plenty of memorable moments and well deserved victories.
It was a pleasure to be joined by the Railscape team who were our Main Sponsors for this years event. Their Patronage and support means so much to us at the Essex Chambers and it was great to have their team and colleagues there with us to celebrate the day.

Although the £10,000 prize remained unclaimed, one player certainly had an outstanding day. Not only did Sam Grudginto win the Longest Drive but also Nearest the Pin and went home with a fabulous golf shirt provided by Canons Brook. If those wins weren’t enough Sam was also a member of the Palmers Law team who were the winning Runners Up team!
Palmers Law narrowly missed out on the Winning Team spot to players from a mixed company team. When Michal Mason & James Hook from Subvision Surveys Ltd and Michael Hicks & David Cowell from BPH Rail & Civil Engineering met together for the first time at the start of the day, who was to know their team would go on to claim the title and the coveted Claret Cup. It goes to show the power of connection that can be achieved on our Golf Day.
Our Overall Individual winner and best player on the day was Rob Davies, who played on the Drains Direct UK team. Massive congratulations to all our winners and commiserations to those who missed out. There’s always next year to claim victory!
After play had finished, attendees gathered in the clubhouse for a well-earned BBQ before settling down to watch England’s nerve-wracking World Cup victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the big screen. There were plenty of groans that turned into ecstatic celebrations as the Lions secured their place in the next round. It’s almost like we planned it that way.
Thank you to everyone who came along to make the day an incredible success. Thank you to our sponsors for their support and generosity. And finally, a huge thank you to all the staff at Canons Brook for looking after everyone so well and for their incredible hospitality.
