BOOKINGS FOR THIS EVENT HAVE CLOSED.

Join us for an opportunity to meet Kieran Dent, Agent for the South East and East Anglia for The Bank of England.

In 2023, Kieran Dent assumed the role of Agent for the South East and East Anglia. This position reflects his commitment to understanding and engaging with economic developments at the regional level. As our Agent, Kieran plays a vital role in providing valuable insights into the economic landscape of the South East and East Anglia regions, further strengthening our organisation's commitment to informed decision-making.

As part of The Bank of Englands commitment to transparency and communication we are pleased to host this off-the-record briefing on the latest assessment of the UK economy and their associated position on monetary policy. This briefing will be based on the Monetary Policy Report published in February.

The event will also provide an opportunity to hear from the Bank of England about their recent response, in partnership with HM Treasury, to their 2023 consultation paper 'The digital pound: A new form of money for households and businesses?'. Kieran will be joined by colleagues from the Bank who will summarise the reasons that a potential digital pound is being explored, what it might look like, what they've heard from industry and the general public so far, and what the next steps are as the digital pound work enters its 'design phase'.

Briefing Agenda:

Overview of the UK Economic Outlook:

  • Discussion on anticipated output growth for the coming quarters.
  • Analysis of key factors influencing the economic landscape, both domestically and internationally.
  • Updates on the current state of the labour market, including employment trends and wage growth.

Inflationary Pressures:

  • Examination of price inflation trends and potential contributing factors.
  • Insights into how global and domestic dynamics may impact inflation in the near and medium term.

Monetary Policy Committee Decision:

  • Explanation of the rationale behind the latest decision taken by the Monetary Policy Committee.
  • Discussion on the key considerations and economic indicators influencing the policy stance.

Recent Developments:

  • Addressing any economic developments that occur between the publication of the February Report and the briefing
  • Providing context and analysis of these developments within the broader economic framework.

The digital pound: A new form of money for households and businesses?

  • Reasons why a potential digital pound is being explored
  • Current views from industry and the general public
  • The next steps as they enter the 'design phase'
