Essex Cricket Legend Attends Chambers of Commerce Christmas Networking

Around sixty companies were represented at a festive buffet lunch and networking event hosted at the Sands by the Sea restaurant in Southend on Wednesday, 6 December. Essex Chambers of Commerce Chief Executive Denise Rossiter reflected on a good year for the Chambers and looked forward to continuing to support members in 2024.

Guest of honour at the event was cricketing great Graham Gooch, who related some extremely funny anecdotes from his long career as player and coach with Essex and England, which began with a county game at Chalkwell Park in Southend. Graham also drew some interesting parallels between his sporting career and the day-to-day concerns of running a business. In particular, if you want to succeed, look to continue to improve when you are on top of your game rather than be tempted to coast or rest on your laurels.

Denise presented Graham with a cheque for £1000 (pictured) as a contribution to his Graham Gooch Scholarship, which supports the development of young cricketers. A raffle at the event also raised £150 for the Essex and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance service.
