Essex Chambers of Commerce is stepping into a fresh and exciting chapter, with Ruth Gilbert set to join as Chief Executive this July.

The transition will unfold over the summer and autumn, giving plenty of time to ensure everything continues to run smoothly for members. Ruth will be working closely with long-standing Chief Executive, Denise Rossiter, who, after more than 22 years of remarkable service and 17 years at the helm as CEO, will move into a new role as Strategic Adviser, continuing to lend her invaluable insight and support to Ruth.

Joe Denham, Chair of Essex Chambers, said:

“Essex Chambers has long been at the heart of business across the county, and this moment is about both celebrating how far we’ve come and looking ahead with real optimism.

“Denise’s leadership over the past 17 years has been nothing short of outstanding. She has helped shape the Chamber into a trusted, influential voice for Essex businesses, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she has achieved.

“We’re equally delighted to welcome Ruth. She brings a wealth of commercial experience and fresh perspective, and we’re confident she will build on these strong foundations while ensuring a seamless transition for our members.”

Denise Rossiter, CEO, said:

“It’s been a genuine privilege to lead Essex Chambers and to work alongside so many inspiring businesses over the past 22 years. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.

“While this marks a change, it’s also a continuation. I’m looking forward to supporting Ruth and the wider team to ensure everything remains strong, stable, and full of opportunity for our members.”

Ruth brings over 30 years of experience working with businesses of all shapes and sizes, from ambitious start-ups and SMEs to global organisations, helping them grow, invest and evolve. She has also played key roles at board and advisory level and has been closely involved in major economic initiatives across Essex.

Ruth Gilbert said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Essex Chambers at such an important and dynamic time.

“There’s no denying that businesses are navigating a challenging landscape right now, with global uncertainty and cost pressures. But what’s equally clear is that Essex is full of opportunity and energy.

“From major developments at the Port of Tilbury and London Gateway, now one of the UK’s fastest-growing deep-sea ports, to ambitious plans for Stansted Airport, new communities, and investment in digital infrastructure, the county is buzzing with long-term potential.

“What makes Essex truly special, though, is its people, its innovative businesses, strong supply chains, and entrepreneurial spirit, all supported by fantastic connectivity to London and beyond.

“I’m especially looking forward to working alongside Denise and learning from her experience. My immediate focus will be on listening to our members, understanding what matters most to them, and helping them make the most of the exciting opportunities ahead.”
