Behind the Scenes at the Port of Tilbury: A Morning of Networking and Insight

It was a bright and early morning for the Chambers team and our attendees at our recent breakfast networking event held at the grand London International Cruise Terminal. We were delighted to be hosted by our Patrons, the Port of Tilbury, who shared fascinating insights into the port and gave guests an exclusive behind-the-scenes bus tour.

Located within Tilbury 1, the historic Grade II listed terminal provided an incredible setting as guests enjoyed a delicious selection of pastries and breakfast rolls. For more than 130 years, the traditional Victorian port has been servicing consumer and material needs across the eastern region, London, and further afield. Through expansion and extensive future development planning, the port has grown into one of the UK’s largest, busiest, and fastest-growing logistics hubs.

Our Client Relationship Manager, Kim Paxman, welcomed attendees and introduced Christopher Johnson, Asset Manager for Property at the Port of Tilbury. Christopher provided an engaging overview of the port’s history as a key asset within the Forth Ports Group and shared insights into the thousands of goods that pass through the port each day.

The sites, which include Tilbury 1 and Tilbury 2, are a hotbed of infrastructure. As a multi-cargo port, its capabilities are highly diversified. Tilbury 2 is home to the UK’s largest RoRo terminal, alongside the UK’s largest grain and CMAT terminals.

With recent planning permission approved for the future 143-acre Tilbury 3 site, Christopher explained how the port’s continued expansion and growth demonstrate its commitment to supporting and boosting the local, regional, and national economy.

Following the presentations, attendees boarded coaches for guided tours, providing a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes and experience the impressive scale of the port’s operations. They then returned to the cruise terminal to continue networking and building valuable relationships.
