Our 2026 programme of events continues to go from strength to strength, with members recently gathering at London City Bond’s London Gateway premises for an evening of fantastic networking and fascinating industry insights.

A valued member of the Essex Chambers of Commerce for many years, London City Bond (LCB) welcomed attendees for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at their impressive operation, with a heritage dating back to 1870.

Guests were warmly welcomed by Sales Director David Hogg and Project Manager Vaughn Bendall, who delivered an engaging presentation on the company’s history, services and continued growth before leading a tour of the vast warehouse facility.

LCB is the oldest and largest privately owned bonded warehouse organisation in the UK, with 16 specialist sites nationwide, including five located in Essex. The business supports a wide range of customers across the hospitality and retail sectors, while the majority of its clientele are private collectors.

The scale of the operation is remarkable, with LCB able to house and process up to 11 million cases of wines and spirits at any one time, from the latest cocktail trends arriving in supermarkets to bottles of whisky valued at up to £1 million.

Despite its size and national reach, the company takes pride in maintaining a strong family atmosphere for staff, recognising them as the organisation’s most valuable asset while continuing to deliver exceptional service to customers.

David and Vaughn also spoke openly about the challenges facing the industry, including shifting consumer drinking habits, evolving tax regulations and rising operational costs. However, with hands-on leadership from the company’s directors and a foundation built on heritage, knowledge and flexibility, the business is well positioned to adapt and thrive.

The Essex Chambers team would like to thank everyone at London City Bond for their generous hospitality. The delicious food and wine samples were a very welcome addition to an enjoyable and informative evening.

If you would like to experience this kind of exclusive behind-the-scenes event at one of the county’s leading businesses, why not join us for our next Networking Tour at Penguin Random House on Thursday 26 March? We would love to see you there.
