Our 2026 physical events programme couldn’t have got off to a better start as we warmly welcomed participants from the Essex business community to The Magic Mushroom Restaurant where we were joined by distinguished guest speakers from Rathbones Group.

Nestled in the heart of the Barleylands Farm Park, attendees gathered in the wonderful event space of The Magic Mushroom. There was a fantastic atmosphere as everyone enjoyed the delicious food and great conversations.

Our CEO, Denise Rossiter welcomed attendees, reminding them that although businesses are facing many challenges, the Essex Chambers of Commerce is always here offering support and guidance. She also announced the introduction of our new specialised business support for charities, helping them to flourish.

Denise then introduced the team from Rathbones. It was a pleasure to be joined by Nathan Delany, Charles Williams, and John Wyn-Evans who shared their incredible insights on the changing world of investments and the impact of AI on the financial landscape.

Founded in 1742, Rathbones are one of the premier wealth managers in the country. They are also valued members of the Essex Chambers business community. Their Investment Director, Nathan Delany, emphasised the groups dedication to establishing relationships with businesses to help them with the strategic investment decisions and the importance of an Essex Chambers membership to help them do so.

We then heard from John Wyn-Evans, Head of Investment Strategy, who shared fascinating insights on the impact that technological advancements and geo-political events are having on the current financial landscape. It may there is a sense of impending doom, often stoked by media outlets, but in fact 2025 was a good year for financial markets.

With threats of bubbles bursting, the worry the impact AI will have on employment, and other negative broader market considerations, it can all feel overwhelming. However, the data suggest, that things aren’t often as bad as predicted. Historically with every technical advancement there have been naysayers, but there has also been prosperity. Given AI’s capabilities, the outcome may appear unpredictable, but with the correct regulation it could have unimaginable benefits.

Thank you to Nathan, John, and Charles for sharing their time and insights. To the incredible team at The Magic Mushroom for their amazing hospitality and to all our attendees for making this event a great success.
