At Essex Chambers, we believe in the power of community, and we were delighted to celebrate it at a recent networking evening in the heart of Southend. The event took place at Roots Hall, the home of Southend United, a club that has become a true institution in the county.
Guests enjoyed wonderful hospitality in the Blues Legends Lounge while making valuable connections with fellow professionals. After a warm welcome from our CEO, Denise Rossiter, the evening’s highlight was an inspiring talk by Southend United Chairman, Justin Rees.
Sharing his journey, personal inspirations, and the pivotal role he played in rescuing Southend United from the brink of liquidation. Established in 1906, the club has seen both triumphs and challenges — but under Justin’s leadership, a new chapter of resilience and community spirit is unfolding.
Justin’s passion for transforming the fortunes of the club were apparent for all to see. It’s clear that community is paramount. He is instilling a strong ethos at the club to support the community who supports them and a desire to give back to fans and local residents.
Attendees also drew clear parallels between the realities of running a football club and managing their own organisations. Rising costs, fierce competition, and the constant need for innovation are challenges that businesses across the county face. Like the club, they too must adapt and find new ways to thrive for the future.
We are grateful to Southend United and to all who joined us for such a memorable evening.
