Essex Chambers and Apprenticeships Minister hear from local apprentices

Essex Chambers’ Chief Executive and Apprenticeships Minister, Robert Halfon MP, recently visited three very different educational institutions specialising in the delivery of apprenticeships.
Their tour started at Harlow College where they spoke to College Principal, Karen Spencer and Will Allanson Executive Director Business Development about the work they do in promoting apprenticeships in and around Harlow as well as hearing first-hand about their aspirations for the future. Next stop was the Sir Charles Kao University Technical College where they met the Principal, Mike McKeaveny, and saw examples of students work in engineering and technical science.
To finish they moved on to Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford to Professor Ruth Taylor, Dean & Pro Vice Chancellor of Health, Social Care and Education, and colleagues, to learn about their courses in teacher training and to hear from students about how they planned to use their experiences in schools around the county.
Speaking about their visits Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, said “We talk a lot about the benefits of apprenticeships to young people but don’t often ask them what they think about them. It was good to talk to a variety of young people at three different educational establishments and hear their enthusiasm for what they are being taught and more importantly learn what they want to do in the future with their new skills”
Robert Halfon MP added "I had a brilliant day touring local apprenticeship providers with the Essex Chamber of Commerce and their Chief Executive, Denise Rossiter. It was fantastic to see the benefits of apprenticeships at Harlow College, the Sir Charles Kao UTC and Anglia Ruskin University. They are all providing a ladder of opportunity for people of all ages who want to earn while they learn and get the skills they need for a successful career."
