What is HMRC’s Making Tax Digital initiative and how will it affect your business?


From the 1st April 2019 tax management is changing for UK's businesses. Many VAT-registered businesses with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold will be required to follow the Making Tax Digital initiative and keep records digitally using software to submit their VAT returns.

Making Tax Digital is a key part of the government’s plans to make it easier for businesses to keep on top of their finances by making fundamental changes to the way the tax system works so that it is:

  • More effective
  • More efficient
  • Easier for taxpayers to get their tax right 

Everybody wants to get their tax right but the latest figures show that many businesses find this hard. The improved accuracy that digital records provide, along with the help built into many software products means that when that information is sent directly to HMRC from the digital records the possibility of errors occurring is avoided or reduced.

Join us at this workshop to learn why digital tax management is becoming mandatory and make it work for you before the deadline.

Justin Walton is the Founder and Managing Director of PLS Tax Solutions which is an independent provider of business mentoring, tax consulting and tax advisory services to businesses and business owners. 

Prior to forming PLS Tax Solutions, Justin was the Global Head of Tax at John Laing Group plc where he spent his time leading on tax advisory and compliance matters for the group.  Justin’s areas of tax expertise include establishing, buying and selling businesses, dealing with HMRC disputes and helping businesses implement tax-ready systems, processes and controls.  During his time at John Laing, Justin spent three years as a Non-Executive Director for a Facilities Management business.  During his career Justin has also worked as a tax advisor for KPMG, BDO and MBS.
