EC Certificate of Origin FAQs

HOW CAN I OBTAIN AN EC CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN?

DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY COMPANY BEFORE I CAN SIGN DOCUMENTS?
Yes. We require each company to complete a Formal Undertaking, which has to be renewed annually. We cannot issue documents until we have the completed undertaking originally signed. Visit our 'Before you Start' page for more information.  

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER?
No. All we require is for your company to complete a Formal Undertaking, which has to be renewed annually. We cannot issue documents until we have the completed undertaking originally signed. 
 
DO THE CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN HAVE TO BE SIGNED BY THE COMPANY?
Yes, on the pink application only. This person must be listed on your company’s current formal undertaking.

CAN I OBTAIN A CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN ONLINE?
Yes, it is possible to apply for a Certificate of Origin online via our online system, e-z Cert. Visit our 'Before you Start' page for more information.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EC AND ARAB CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN?
Arab certificates cover Arab league states and can be certified or certified & legalised by us,  the Arab Chamber and relevant Embassy.  The manufacturers name and address must be listed on the front of the certificate.  A European Community certificate covers the rest of the world.

CAN I HAVE AN EC CERTIFICATE WITH AN ARAB DESTINATION?
Yes, as long as you have signed the Arab Indemnity on the Formal Undertaking.
 
CAN I GET EXTRA COPIES OF THE CERTIFICATES CERTIFIED?
Yes, but you will be charged for extra yellow copies. Ideally they should be issued at the same time as the originals but retrospective copies can be raised.
 
HOW DO I PROVIDE FOREIGN EVIDENCE FOR A C of O?

  • A certificate of origin from the country of export

  • A copy of the invoice from the manufacturer

  • A declaration from the manufacturer or producer of the goods 

  • A copy of the import entry against which the goods were cleared by HMRC

  • Photographic evidence; this should show the serial number/model etc. followed by the Country


DO YOU CERTIFY INVOICES AND OTHER DOCUMENTS?
Yes. The documents must be signed by a signatory on the company formal undertaking, as we would be authenticating the signature held. Visit our 'Certification of Other Documents' page
