Representation and Lobbying

Helping to shape the agenda.

The Board of Essex Chambers of Commerce and the Committees of the local Chambers like Colchester, Southend, Basildon and Chelmsford formulate Chambers policy. Chambers Members are encouraged to join the debate by contacting a Member of the Board or a Committee Member or by contacting Chambers Staff. They can also take part in regular surveys designed to establish the opinion of the Essex business community on specific issues. The Chambers work with partner organisations to further develop policy and lobbying objectives.

The British Chambers of Commerce network has established policy at national level on several key issues including transport and infrastructure, planning law and regulation, workforce skills and red tape. Essex Chambers has an excellent track record for participation and the credibility to be included in the wider decision making process.

Representation and Lobbying

As a Chambers Member, your views count - local business people with local knowledge are the strength of the Chambers of Commerce network, which is why we conduct frequent surveys. Every Member who responds takes us a step closer to representing the views of the Essex business community.

At regional level Essex Chambers of Commerce is one of six chambers that form the East of England Chambers of Commerce. This provides Members with the opportunity to have their voice heard by regional governing bodies.

The importance of maintaining close contact with partner organizations and opinion formers, both locally and beyond, cannot be overstated. In additional to its regional role, Essex Chambers also benefits from having two senior management representatives, Chief Executive John Clayton and Operations Director Denise Rossiter, on the British Chambers of Commerce National Policy Council.
