Course Outline
Project management in organisations large and small is often characterised by responsibility for multiple concurrent projects. This course examines various organisational structures and the different approaches to project management methodology within each. It investigates the importance of leadership and explores the skills required to organise a larger project. Additional concepts that will be covered include structured project planning and control, using earned value to analyse performance and designing a project management information system.
The course will include:
- Introduction to project organisation (structures and differences in project management)
- Project management structure
- Organising the larger project
- Leadership
- A structured approach to project planning and control
- A modern approach to project control
- Using earned value to analyse performance and control change
- Managing conflict in the project setting
Course Aims
- To provide an understanding of what constitutes a complex project
- To provide an understanding of how to manage complex projects and programmes by applying advanced tools and techniques
- To enable participants to use earned value to analyse performance and control change
- To appreciate the importance of appropriate project leadership, including managing conflict in a project setting
- To provide an understanding of designing a project management information system

Tutor: Ian Glenister
Ian Glenister holds a number of
directorships and currently works as a business consultant, management coach
and training specialist. He has a number of years' experience designing and
delivering executive development and training programmes both in the public and
private sector and has an intimate understanding of the needs of the managing
director/owner. Ian's consultancy work with small businesses ensures that he
remains in touch with the issues and the concerns of the owners. Ian has a host
